Information and communication technology (ICT) has brought about revolutionary changes all over the world in people's daily work both at home and workplaces. Communication and office work have become much faster than ever before with the blessings of ICT even in the remote corners of the globe.
 
As a result of expansion of information technology a number of things have become obsolete nowadays like shorthand, typing machines, money order, handwritten letters etc.
 
People across all countries are now able to get in touch with each other within minutes. In this globalized world communication has attained lightning speed through social networks. Exchanging money and necessary documents has now become much speedier by virtue of the excellence in the field of information and communication technology.
 
The present government of Bangladesh won the hearts of young people during the election of 2008 focusing on information and communication technology in the electoral manifesto. Amazing developments have been procured by the present government in different sectors which goes without saying.
 
There has been enormous progress with information and communication technology too but a much higher  speck of development in ICT sector could have been secured if we had a greater number of officials potential enough to lead the ICT sector towards the cliff of advancement.
 
Unfortunately there is a glaring lack of competent people in the state-run offices of Bangladesh for driving the ICT sector forward.  It should be noted that Public Service Commission (PSC) recruits employees for a wide range of cadres all of which are not equally indispensable but there is no specific cadre for information and communication technology.
 
As a result ICT proficiency among higher government officials in Bangladesh is not at all satisfactory. Shortage of ICT skills, therefore, is certainly posing barriers on the way to optimum development. In the current era of technological boom all out prosperity is hard to imagine without having expertise in information and communication technology.
 
It may be added that there is a post named "System Analyst" in all ministries. This post can be upgraded for ICT cadre through required measures by the government. It sounds shocking that there are several ICT organizations all over Bangladesh but none of them pointed fingers at the absence of ICT cadre in government service.
 
Competency at information and communication technology is highly essential in the present world to do any formal or informal work rapidly. In the government offices of Bangladesh sometimes very simple things take longer time because most of the government employees are weak at ICT.
 
If an ICT cadre can be appropriately established and monitored it will obviously speed up the work of all government offices and transparency in all activities can also be ensured through the exercise of ICT devices and technicalities.
 
Introducing ICT in government offices will definitely reduce corruption and it will be also helpful for identifying corrupted officials and for taking actions against them. For this reason establishment of ICT cadre is one of the most vital things at present to build up good governance and integrity in our country.
 
Students who are pursuing bachelor and master programs at different colleges and universities can participate in the recruitment exams for ICT cadre. In this way highly professional and dexterous human resource can be employed in government offices who will play decisive roles for expediting the advancement of the country in science and technology.
 
By generating job vacancies in ICT cadre the government can effectively bring down unemployment rate in Bangladesh which will be very much useful for the country to acquire the objectives of Vision 2021 and for addressing the targets of Sustainable Development Goals.
 
It must not be forgotten that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda a few days ago poked at the present government by referring admiringly to a number of ministries and organizations that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had introduced while they were in power.
 
Keeping this thing in view the present government should make the best of its efforts to launch an ICT cadre without delay so that nobody can hint at this issue in a tone of denunciation while talking about Awami League in future. Moreover, setting up ICT cadre would be a spectacular milestone for the government which will be regarded as an outstanding breakthrough in days to come.
 
Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina is a globally applauded leader. She has been admired and awarded by several international platforms for her beneficial roles for the betterment of Bangladeshi people. At the same time under her firm leadership Bangladesh has stepped forward significantly in all fields including ICT.
 
Her son and ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy is a highly qualified ICT professional and his merit, guidelines and suggestions can be utilized for the establishment of ICT cadre in government service. Furthermore, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the meantime has laid emphasis on the idea of e-filing for fighting graft and for establishing accountability at all levels. 
 
By applying the boons of information and communication technology the nation can get hold of an excellent trinity made of good governance, transparency and the fulfillment of Digital Bangladesh.
